Winter Olympics - Hair on the Slopes?!

After years of practice, the athletes at the Winter Olympics probably won’t be too worried about what their hair looks like.  However, for the rest of us, winter is the season that wrecks the most havoc on our hair.

From the seemingly instant change in climate to the daily assault of dry, brittle wind and frizz-producing snow - us girl's  don't stand a chance!  And the damage does not stop there – back in your warm hotel (or your kitchen!), the central heating will zap any moisture your hair had left! Follow these simple tips from the Mark Hill team and look good all of the time, on and off the slopes.

Just like your skin, your hair needs a little more TLC then normal in the winter months.  Always use a conditioner, like the Mark Hill MiracOILicious nourishing conditioner every time you shampoo your hair, and a weekly treatment (check out the supercharged MiracOILicious 2 Minute Intensive Treatment) ensure you really pack the moisture in where needed.

The sun’s rays are strong when reflected off the crisp white snow, and can fade your colour.  Wearing a hat will stop this, but using a wide chiffon scarf like a hair band will work just as well, and will follow this season hot hair trend.

If the weather is a little damp, then use specifically formulated products to protect – moisture-quenching, humidity-blocking Mark Hill Defrizz-ilicious products help calm hair, eliminate frizz and smooth fly-a-ways.

Another hot look which works perfectly on the slopes is the shabby bun or chignon  tie your hair back in a low pony tail, and twist into shape.  Secure with grips or pins, and don’t worry if small pieces pop out – you want the look to be soft and natural, not neat and tidy like a ballet dancer.

The pony tail is one of the easiest styles for active people.  Not only does it keep your hair out of your eyes, it also looks great.  But rather than just scrape your hair back, try to get a little bit of movement into your style.  Either keep a little height on the top section of your hair by just using a little light backcombing before tying back, or leave your hair with some curls or waves.

Changing your look for après ski is easy, and does not have to mean hours in front of the mirror.  Pack some Heated Jumbo Velcro rollers in your bag, pop them into freshly shampooed but dry hair, spray with a little Fabulous Finish Hairspray, and then leave to cool for about 10 minutes.  Remove the rollers and comb through with your fingers for great movement.
