The High Ponytail: Your Slick Hair Saviour

Walking into the office looking like you got caught in a rainstorm without an umbrella would normally get you a sympathy cuppa and a few odd stares. But, wet-look hair is hot right now. Or it is if you’ve got the cheekbones and charisma of Kendall Jenner, anyways. For the rest of us mere mortals, a super shiny slicked back style can quickly turn from supermodel chic to greasy Draco Malfoy rip-off if not carefully managed.

From runway to everyday…

Whilst wet-look hair is Tyra Banks-level fierce on runways and the red carpet, it’s pretty extreme. For a style you can rock from day-to-night, we’re aiming for glossy rather than greasy and a slicked back high ponytail – a la Kim Kardashian – is the way to do it. Here are our top tips for nailing a silky smooth and sleek updo.

Put the prep in

Dry, frizzy hair isn’t going to cut it. Improving the condition of your tresses should be a priority regardless of what style you’re aiming for, but it’s essential for achieving a natural on-trend sheen. Start by keeping your water intake high – we’re always told how much it benefits your skin, but it has the same nourishing effect on your hair too. And then add our MiracOILous Nourishing Shampooand conditioner to your grooming routine. Its powerful blend of Moroccan Argan Oil and Ylang Ylang will leave your hair irresistibly soft and hair flip worthy.

Styling it right

Before you can start pinning your glossy hair up, you need to perfect your blow-drying skills. For a sleek finish that still has some natural movement (you want a healthy, bouncy ponytail, after all) use our detangling Argan Oil paddle brush. And remember to keep your blow dryer pointed downwards as you move from root to tip, for shiny frizz-free hair.

The finishing touch

Now it’s just a case of pinning it all up. Gather your hair at the back of your head – as high as you dare – and grab some Perfecting Polish to smooth the sides back. It’ll add just the right amount of glass-like shine and keep flyaway strands in place. Once you’re happy with the shape and position, secure it with a hairband. For an extra touch of sophistication, conceal the fastening by separating a small section of hair from your pony and wrapping it around the bobble. There you have it, a selfie-perfect slicked back ponytail that’ll have you winning Kim’s #HairGame crown!
