How to Nail Notting Hill Carnival

This bank holiday, the streets of west London are set to welcome Notting Hill Carnivalfor the 51st year running. The annual party (which is the second largest carnival in the world) has Caribbean roots. So you can expect to see millions of sequins, thousands of feathers and litres of body paint. Not to mention copious amounts of rum… If you’re lucky enough to be joining in on the celebrations, you need to ensure your style is as fleeky as the floats. Just follow our rules and you’ll be all set!

Be Loud and Proud

Forget the rules this bank holiday and make sure your colours are clashing and your prints are miss-match. This will have you lookin’ like our girl Rita Ora.   Don’t worry if your wardrobe is lacking in colour, instead add some brightness by using Sleek’s eyeshadow palette. Place your brightest colour finely under the eye for a super-vibrant look! If that doesn’t float your carnival boat, go wild with Sleek lipstick – the brighter, the better.

Remember That More is More

When it comes to Notting Hill carnival, forget the “less is more” rule. Grab your sunglasses, earrings, chains, face jewels, and feathers and get ready to party! It may sound a bit OTT, but trust us, it’s not! TOP TIP: When it comes to the face jewels, focus on the corner of your eyes and over the brows. This will have you channelling some serious Vanessa Hudgens vibes

Go Large or Go Home

When it comes to hair, we’re firm believers that bigger is better. To make sure your mane has some serious volume this carnival, grab the Mark Hill Corkscrew Curling Wand. Start by pinning half of your hair up so you can focus on the bottom layers. Once that’s all done, tackle the top half. This curly style will have you channelling your inner Olivia Buckland… just remember to use a spritz of Freeze Hold Hairspray so your look lasts ALL. DAY. LONG. So, whether you’re attending for the steel pan bands, the sound-systems, or the copious amounts of chicken and corn, be sure to follow our top tips.
